Leadership in Action is a practical, workshop-style course, ideal for managers, team leaders and potential managers who wish to develop their leadership skills and improve their understanding of their own skills and potential. Leadership in Action is all about personal leadership and the difference between leadership and management. Leading implies movement, change and taking your team towards somewhere new; getting the best from the people around you. These can be challenging and difficult skills to develop, so this programme is about learning and changes in behaviour over a period of time.
“I never really appreciated the true meaning of leadership. Leadership was to me just another management skill. How wrong I was; being a leader means learning to take a stand, take risks, anticipate, initiate and innovate. It is now just a simple matter of putting this into practice” (LIAC participant)
Leadership in Action takes place in a different and rewarding environment with an outdoor element. It has a record of success stretching back to 1981, and incorporates tools and practical experiences for leading in different situations.
Leadership in Action can run as either an open programme or an in-house programme.
Beacons Leadership in Action
Leadership in Action is a 3-day residential programme, with a high level of facilitation. Between 5 and 10 participants, often from a variety of different organisations, work with three Beacons coaches, to share experiences and learn together so there are lots of opportunities for personal feedback and one-to-one coaching.
We run programmes between February and November each year. Please contact us for current availability.
The venue is the Speech House, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

Linking Leadership in Action to work
Before each course, we visit all course members and their managers, to identify their specific objectives for the programme.
During the course, all reviews and discussions centre around applying the learning back at work – how leadership can be applied and make a difference at all levels and in every part of an organisation.
Three to six months afterwards, we visit again to discuss progress on the Action Plan, to review the course in detail, and ensure that the course has met its objectives.
Testimonials
“I’ve done a fair few training courses and I can say that LIAC was without a doubt the best. Not just the most fun, but the most in-depth, relevant and beneficial … The length and location of the course added to its effectiveness … I learnt something from everyone involved; things I will remember and be able to use in the future … by Friday we all felt like there was nothing we couldn’t achieve!” (NB Interserve)
“Leadership in Action has given me renewed confidence and a realisation of how I lead as a manager. I am now more aware of the impact of my leadership style on others and how to adapt this when necessary. Attending the 3 day programme has increased my confidence and outlook on what I believe I can achieve as a leader.” (Travis Perkins)
The course was highly enjoyable, full of useful content and planned very well. It was also brilliant to see that all the trainers were able to answer questions quickly, but competently. All the responses were clear, well communicated, and made sense! Overall, a fantastic package!” (JM AWE)
In-company Leadership in Action Programmes
You may have sufficient numbers of candidates to book a dedicated course, or feel that the advantages of a tailored in-company course outweigh the cross-fertilisation and greater freedom associated with your people attending the open programme. In this case we work with you to design a course where the venue, duration and content reflect the precise learning objectives of your group.
